"It will be difficult for both not to reach the final," Corretja assesses the chances of Alcaraz and Sinner at Roland-Garros

Roland-Garros starts this Sunday with the beginning of the main draw. The first matches will take place at the end of this weekend, before things get more intense throughout the tournament. For this 2025 edition, two players seem to stand out among the favorites for the title.
They are the world number 1 Jannik Sinner and the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian will open his tournament against Arthur Rinderknech, while Carlos Alcaraz will face Giulio Zeppieri. Alex Corretja compared the chances of the two players winning this tournament in an interview with Super Tennis.
"I feel that Alcaraz and Sinner both have a leg up on the others, if not more. Of course, as the tournament progresses, we will see which players are able to best adapt to the conditions and create problems.
But I think they both arrive at the tournament in good shape. For Alcaraz, it was crucial to win in Rome, especially from a mental and confidence standpoint, after not being able to play in Madrid. Physically, the fact that he felt ready, that he believed he could be competitive again, was very important.
In the case of Sinner, after three months without competition, it is truly remarkable to see how he managed the situation, and he reached the final. I think it will be very difficult for both not to reach the final at Roland-Garros.
Sinner is a machine and, to dismantle a machine, you have to find the keys. Alcaraz has the great merit and the great fortune of having these weapons at his disposal and knowing how to use them well.
It’s almost impossible to beat Sinner, he is like an improved version of Agassi and Djokovic, he is in another dimension. Alcaraz understands that it's not possible to challenge Sinner on the consistency front. In this regard, the Italian is the best.
He must therefore be creative and understand that sometimes he must vary the heights, the power, the angles, and the intensity. All this also involves an effort that is very difficult for Carlos to maintain.
Against Sinner, he must give something extra, and that is what he did in Rome. If he plays the final at Roland-Garros against him, he will have to do even better than in Rome. Sinner hasn't played in three months and every match he plays in Paris will make him better," analyzed the Spaniard.
