"It's a big step, but I won't let myself be intimidated," Rinderknech determined ahead of his duel against Alcaraz
Since Wimbledon, Rinderknech seems to have rediscovered high-quality tennis. A semifinalist in Kitzbühel, he is now in the round of 16 at the US Open, where he will face the world number 2, Alcaraz. Ahead of this clash, he told our colleagues at L’Équipe:
"I'm fortunate to have faced Alcaraz several times already, so I know what I need to do to compete with him. It's a big step, but I won't let myself be intimidated. I'm going to try to develop my game and give everything on the court.
I can't consider myself the favorite against Carlos, but I have the same will and the same desire to go for the win. Obviously, it will be difficult because, along with Jannik, they are the two best in the world. Almost unbeatable. I've managed to trouble him a bit in the past. I know I can show my talent."
The two have faced each other three times on the tour, most recently this year at Queen's. The Spaniard leads comfortably against the world number 82 (3-0).
