It’s about being happy with everything we’ve accomplished," says Nadal after the appearance of Federer, Djokovic, and Murray during his tribute
Novak Djokovic had let it slip earlier this Sunday, announcing that he would participate in the tribute ceremony to Rafael Nadal at Roland-Garros, alongside Roger Federer and Andy Murray.
That didn't prevent goosebumps at the sight of these four tennis legends reunited on the same court.
After exchanging a few words with each of them, Nadal spoke to thank them for their presence and to discuss their rivalry that has marked the history of tennis, with records that seem unbeatable:
"After all these years of fighting against each other, it’s incredible how time changes your perspective. You don’t know it yet, Novak. Andy, maybe you already do. With Roger, we’ve discussed it a lot.
The nerves, the pressure, and all those feelings you experience when we are rivals… Everything changes when you stop your career. It’s just about being happy with everything we’ve accomplished.
We have all fulfilled our dreams. We became tennis players and played against each other in the most important moments of our careers. I think we have built incredible rivalries. We have shown the world that we can fight as hard as possible, while still being good colleagues and showing respect.
Your presence means a lot to me. You have given me a hard time. But I’ve always loved pushing my limits every day to face you.
In the end, tennis is just a game. Sometimes, we get carried away by emotions. But we know that in the end, it’s just a game. We send a message to the world: we can be good friends despite our rivalries. Thank you so much for all these years.
I hope we continue to do positive things for our sport. Our legacy is there, but we must continue to build things that help tennis grow. I’m sure we will do great things together. Thank you very much and I wish you the best.
