Jabeur eliminates Osorio and will meet Navarro in the third round at Melbourne
Ons Jabeur continues her comeback. After ending her 2024 season last August, the Tunisian, now ranked 39th in the world, remains a threat to any player on the circuit, as the three-time Grand Slam finalist demonstrates.
After her opening victory over Anhelina Kalinina in two sets, Jabeur had another tricky match against Camila Osorio.
The Colombian, who defeated Maria Sakkari in the first round, is difficult to manoeuvre and makes very few mistakes in the exchange.
Nevertheless, Jabeur is the bête noire of the South American, who has never beaten her opponent in the past.
The black streak continued, and Ons Jabeur, former world number 2, didn't hesitate to win 7-5, 6-3 in 1h36 of play. It was Jabeur's fifth win in as many matches against Osorio.
A third round tie against Emma Navarro is now on the agenda, in a match that will be well worth the detour.
The American, seeded 8th but who had struggled against Peyton Stearns in her opening match, dominated Wang Xiyu in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-4).
Jabeur and Navarro met in Charleston in 2022, and it was the Tunisian who came out on top in their only previous encounter.
