Johnson compares Alcaraz to the Big 3 generation: I feel like we've been too spoiled these past 20 years

Currently ranked number 3 in the world, Carlos Alcaraz recently won the first indoor title of his career at the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam.

The Spaniard has, however, experienced several disappointments, with a quarter-final elimination at the Australian Open against a not fully fit Novak Djokovic, and was also prematurely defeated in Doha by Jiri Lehecka.

In the Nothing Major Podcast, former American professional player Steve Johnson compared Alcaraz with the players from the Big 3 generation and noted a significant difference between him and the players on the circuit over the past two decades.

"Against Lehecka, Alcaraz was very aggressive, he played a good match and made virtually no errors for most of the time. I don't know...

I feel like we've been too spoiled these past 20 years with Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, but also Wawrinka, Murray, Del Potro, Tsonga, and Berdych.

When they were on top, they would decisively finish their matches. In the past two years, that's not what we've seen from Alcaraz.

When he's at his best, he's better than all the other players, but his average level can fluctuate, and there are periods where he can be inconsistent within the same match, and it showed, especially in that match in Doha," Johnson assured.

Even at Alcaraz's age? Really Steve? Was Djokovic finishing all matches with authority? Nadal outside of clay at 21? Is he not following pace overall? Sinner? This is garbage comment from Johnson. Unnecessarily critical in different generations comparing at the top djoker, fed and Nadal vs. kids coming in still. Steve is a has been that never made it. Hack on court. Go play pickleball chump.

Definitely agree with tennisauthority. He’s been #1, winner of 4 GS titles already, 5 masters 1000 and silver medalist at the Olympics. He’s only 21, and he’s already a Hall of Famer. That criticism from Steve, who didn’t even get to top 20 in his career, is straight up BS.
