Kasatkina: "It's never easy having so many points to defend".

Kasatkina: It's never easy having so many points to defend.

Already a finalist last year on the grass of Eastbourne, Daria Kasatkina is back at this stage of the competition this Saturday. She will face Leylah Fernandez in the final. Already a small victory for the world No. 14, who had to get out of a very complicated situation in the semi-finals.

Kasatkina had conceded the first set to recent French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini, and had to save two break points in a row at the start of the second set. She had to work very hard to turn the match around (3-6, 7-5, 6-3). Seeing the Russian in the final again a year later is therefore far from a foregone conclusion, as she explained after the match.

Daria Kasatkina: "It's never easy to arrive at a tournament where you have to defend a lot of points, but I'm really happy that I was able to play well and have fun on the court, always finding a way to get back into the match. I'm really proud of myself.

On grass, everything can change at any moment, so I tried to concentrate on every point and fight to the end... against a great player who's playing incredibly well this year."

The stress of having points to defend is part of the mental aspect of tennis. In part because that affects your ranking and where you get seeded in future tournaments. Having the mental fortitude to deal with stress is part of the game. Some people were lucky and born with the temperament for that, others not so lucky.
