Keys dismisses Vekic and sets up a quarter-final against Swiatek in Madrid
Madison Keys continues her journey at the WTA 1000 in Madrid. The American, ranked 5th in the world, confirmed her first two victories in the tournament. After defeating Lucia Bronzetti (6-4, 6-3) and Anna Kalinskaya (7-5, 7-6), the Australian Open winner at the start of the season eliminated Donna Vekic for the second time this season (6-2, 6-3), a few weeks after already beating the Croatian at the same stage of the competition in Indian Wells.
A semi-finalist in the Spanish capital last year, Keys was defeated by Iga Swiatek just short of the grand finale. It works out well, as the American will have the chance to take her revenge, this time for a spot in the final four, in the next round.
The two players will meet again after the epic semi-final in Melbourne at the start of the season that saw the Polish player secure a match point before being overtaken in the super tie-break of the third set by Madison Keys.
