Korda eliminated by Virtanen in Marseille
Number 5 seed at the Open 13 Provence, Sebastian Korda didn't make it past the first round in Bouches-du-Rhône.
The American, ranked 23rd in the world, lost his opening match to Otto Virtanen, 98th in the ATP rankings, after a three-set match (6-7, 7-6, 6-4 in 2h32).
A finalist in Adelaide, where he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime, Korda was then eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open by Vukic.
The 24-year-old didn't reassure himself in Marseille, and it's the Finn, who scored 19 aces in this match (compared to 11 for his opponent of the day), who reaches the second round. He will face the winner of the match between Luca Nardi and Daniel Altmaier.
Korda, who reached the second round last year (beaten by Grigor Dimitrov), made his second appearance in the French capital after 2024, but was beaten in his first match.
Virtanen, meanwhile, notched up his first career victory over a top-30 player, winning an ATP Tour match for the first time in 2025.
