Kyrgios loses to Fearnley in the first round of the Australian Open
Nick Kyrgios had no answer to Jacob Fearnley. The Australian lost 7-6, 6-3, 7-6.
He appeared physically diminished, with abdominal pain, requiring the intervention of soigneurs on several occasions.
His physical state is a cause for concern and raises many questions about his future in professional tennis.
Fearnley was never really troubled in this match, apart from a break point. Speaking to John McEnroe at the end of the match, he said: "I'm sorry for Nick.
I know he's been struggling with injuries. For my part, I think I played an excellent match.
I was nervous, but very excited about playing Nick."
The Briton will face Arthur Cazaux in the second round.
