"Listen, I'm going to go out there, have fun, and see what I can do," says Shelton ahead of his match against Alcaraz
After a hard-fought five-set victory over Sonego in his opening match, Shelton then benefited from Gaston's withdrawal before securing a solid win against Gigante, who had upset Tsitsipas. Now into the Round of 16 at Roland-Garros, the American faces the daunting task of taking on defending champion Alcaraz. He shared his thoughts in a press conference:
"Listen, I'm going to go out there, have fun, and see what I can do. I'm starting to feel like I can do a lot of damage on clay against anyone because I've gained better traction and stability in my movement.
I'm moving with more speed and, most importantly, as my true self. Facing Carlos in this setting is a huge opportunity in my career—I feel privileged to experience something like this."
This clay season, Shelton reached the final in Munich, where he lost to Zverev (6-2, 6-4).
