Ljubicic on the careers of Monfils and Gasquet: "They could have done a bit more".
Ivan Ljubicic, the FFT's head of high-level affairs, gave his opinion on the careers of the French players who have marked the last decade.
After Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gilles Simon, Richard Gasquet will be the next to retire in 2025. As for Gaël Monfils, he's still going strong at a competitive level, even though we know he's getting closer and closer to the end of his career.
Asked by Eurosport to assess the achievements of this generation of French tennis players, Ivan Ljubicic considers that some of them lacked ambition: "I have the feeling that Gilles Simon used his potential to 100%, but Gaël, I feel, could have done a bit more.
We all know how talented Richard Gasquet was when he was 14-15-16. He's had a fantastic career, but I feel he could have done a bit more.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga used almost 100% of his potential, but he had physical problems."
