Caroline Garcia will have to wait to win her first match of the season on the WTA Tour. The Frenchwoman, down to 76th in the world, had been invited by the organizers of the WTA 500 tournament in Abu Dhabi.

Faced with Lulu Sun, ranked 45th, Garcia failed to regain her confidence and lost for the second time in two matches this season (6-1, 6-3).

With one break point converted out of four, the US Open 2022 semi-finalist was unable to show sufficient commitment to compete.

After being eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open by Naomi Osaka, Caroline Garcia failed to reassure herself in the United Arab Emirates, allowing her 23-year-old opponent to reach the second round.

There, she will meet Ekaterina Alexandrova, fresh from her victory in Linz, or Leylah Fernandez, for a place in the quarter-finals.

I propose the following changes to the rules:

1...a walķover will not be a loss. We have no control of player's health. If he or she is entered in a contest we expect them to play.

2...an incomplete match is not a loss. If a player forfeits we pick another match if there are more to choose.

3...this also applies if TT cancels a match. TT will not take hours to decide an outcome.
