Machac, Ill, Withdraws from ATP 500 Tournament in Barcelona
Tomas Machac will not be competing in Barcelona after all. The Czech player, who was eliminated in the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 by Alex De Minaur, was set to face Frances Tiafoe in his opening match in Catalonia, with a potential high-profile second-round clash against Carlos Alcaraz.
However, the world No. 21, who participated in UTS Nîmes last week and reached the final, has withdrawn due to a stomach virus.
He will be replaced by a lucky loser, whose identity will be announced later today. This marks another setback for Machac, who won his first ATP title earlier this season in Acapulco.
