Machac Replaces Fritz in the UTS Nîmes Lineup This Weekend
This Friday, April 4, the second UTS event of the 2025 season takes place in Nîmes. Following Tomas Machac's victory in Guadalajara, eight players will compete for the trophy in Gard. However, the top seed, Taylor Fritz, has withdrawn in recent hours after being scheduled to face Gaël Monfils.
"I was looking forward to returning to the UTS circuit after reaching the final in Los Angeles in 2023. Unfortunately, I aggravated my abdominal injury during my semifinal in Miami and won’t recover in time to compete in Nîmes this week. I was excited to play in this historic venue and look forward to making my UTS return very soon," reads a statement on the UTS website.
As a result, Tomas Machac, who won the season’s first UTS leg in Mexico against David Goffin, will replace Fritz. The Czech player, who withdrew before facing Mensik in Miami, will now take on Monfils in the quarterfinals. The other matchups will feature Alex De Minaur vs. Ugo Humbert, Ben Shelton vs. Andrey Rublev, and Holger Rune vs. Casper Ruud.
