Monfils beats Struff to reach the quarter-finals in Auckland

Gaël Monfils continues his winning ways at the ATP 250 tournament in Auckland.
The last French player to compete in New Zealand, the former world no. 6 confirmed his success against Pedro Martinez in the previous round, when he came within a game of defeat.
Facing Jan-Lennard Struff, Monfils, 38, won in two sets (6-1, 7-6), taking his third victory in as many encounters with the German player on the main tour.
This is the third win of the season for Gaël Monfils, who is preparing as best he can for the Australian Open, which begins next week.
In the quarter-finals, the oldest quarter-finalist in Auckland since 1970 will face Argentina's lucky loser Facundo Diaz Acosta, who has beaten Cameron Norrie and Sebastian Baez since the start of the tournament.
The two men have never faced each other in the past and will battle it out for a place in the last four this Thursday.
