Monfils reflects on the tough conditions of his Miami defeat and discusses his upcoming schedule
Eliminated by Korda in the Miami round of 16 (6-4, 2-6, 6-4), Monfils had to deal with multiple rain delays during the match.
In an interview shared by *L’Équipe*, the Frenchman explained how he handled these challenges, particularly the waiting time:
"In those situations, you do your best, you try to prepare well. Unfortunately, the court wasn’t ready right away, so we had to wait again (at least 30 minutes on the bench).
After that, it was tough because the balls were new, and he served really well (Korda was up a break in the third set when play was interrupted). He hit five first serves in a row, then a big second serve. He managed it very well."
The world No. 46 also shared his thoughts when play resumed after the delay:
"When we walked, water was coming up, you could see the sole marks. It wasn’t visible from the stands, of course, but I asked if they were sure it was okay.
They even told me it was wet and dangerous. That’s why we were testing it by walking. Before we even got back on the court, they knew. As for me, I was waiting—I didn’t mind restarting if it was playable."
Regarding the rest of his season, the 38-year-old player outlined his schedule:
"I’ll head home and, if all goes well, I’ll return at UTS in Nîmes, then Monaco. For the next few days, I still have no idea. We’ll discuss everything with the coach."
