Monfils' run ends in Miami after a repeatedly interrupted match
Gaël Monfils was defeated in the Miami round of 16 by Sebastian Korda (6-4, 2-6, 6-4). Physically hampered, the Frenchman saw his Florida journey come to an end.
In a match interrupted multiple times due to technical issues (lighting), then by rain for nearly three hours, Korda emerged victorious in his duel against the Frenchman. The American thus avenged his loss at Indian Wells two weeks ago.
At 38 years and six months old, Monfils could have become the oldest quarterfinalist in Masters 1000 history, surpassing Roger Federer (38 years and 2 months at Shanghai in 2019).
Korda will face Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.
