Monfils: "Richard is an exceptional person".
Gaël Monfils recently reflected on the announcement made by his compatriot and friend, Richard Gasquet.
Indeed, the Biterrois player recently announced his intention to end his career at the end of the 2025 French Open.
In a statement relayed by Tennis Majors, 'La Monf' confessed to welcoming the news with a certain sadness: "Richard is someone I've known since I was a kid. We're a bunch of buddies with Jo (Tsonga), Gilles (Simon) and Richard (Gasquet).
We were used to being together all the time. When Gilles and Jo left, it left a void, and with Richard's departure, it's going to be a big void.
I'm really sad. Richard is an exceptional person, someone who meant so much to me as a friend, as an advisor, he gave me so much.
He's a great champion with an immense career. He was very important in my life.
It's not easy to say to myself that it's almost over and that I'm going to carry on alone."
