The all-French duel between Corentin Moutet and Clément Tabur lived up to expectations, but it was the higher-ranked of the two who ultimately prevailed.
Moutet, who delivered 42 winners and five breaks in the match, overcame his compatriot in three sets (6-3, 7-6, 6-3) after 2 hours and 53 minutes of play. He notably scored one of the points of the tournament in the first set, returning multiple smashes from Tabur before finishing with a stunning backhand passing shot.
Qualifying for the second round of Roland-Garros for the fourth consecutive year, Moutet will now face Novak Djokovic in a match that promises to be filled with spectacular rallies.
