My taunting was like Djokovic's in Turin, where he mimicked an orchestra conductor," Mensik explained after his electrifying win against Müller
Jakub Mensik had a chaotic afternoon on Court 14, facing off against Alexandre Müller and the French crowd, who were obviously fully behind his opponent.
After winning the third set, the recent Miami Masters 1000 champion engaged in some taunting toward the crowd, mimicking the movements of an orchestra conductor. A gesture he later explained in his press conference:
"I’d heard a lot about the atmosphere here. Last year, I didn’t get to experience it. But this year, I expected it, though I don’t think I was fully prepared. It felt like being in a football match. It was completely crazy, but honestly, I loved it.
In my head, I told myself they were cheering for me, chanting my name. That they weren’t saying 'Come on, Alex,' but 'Come on, Jakub.' That’s what made the difference for me, because otherwise I would’ve started playing badly. [...]
That’s what Novak does when everyone’s against him. It was hell at times during this match. The taunting was like Djokovic’s against Sinner in Turin, where he imitated an orchestra conductor.
