Moutet Supports PTPA: "If We Can Provide Support to Players in Need"
The Frenchman is among the players backing the complaint filed by the PTPA against tennis governing bodies.
In an interview with L’Équipe, the Frenchman expressed his support for the organization founded by Djokovic and highlighted the dysfunction within the governing bodies:
"I think there are many players who support it, but few, for reasons of interest, want their names to be made public.
They asked me if my name could be mentioned, and I told them of course. I'm not afraid; I think there are many things happening that are unacceptable.
That doesn't mean we're not lucky—we have a good life, that's for sure. But I believe there are many things in this system that need to be changed, so it's important to have an association, especially one supported by the greatest player in history.
It really means something to me. I'm not hesitant. If we can provide support to players, especially those in need, those who are lower-ranked, if we can make a difference, I'm always for it."
The 25-year-old player also criticized the fines imposed by the governing bodies, which he considers too high:
"The amount of fines we receive is getting bigger and bigger. You can get fined €10,000 just like that, every week, for breaking a racket.
When I break one, I'm not proud of myself, it's not the image I want to project, but to pay €10,000 for that?
I think we work hard to earn our money, we have our team to pay, a lot of expenses, so it's still a lot of money. I think the issue of money needs to be revisited in the boardrooms."
Currently in Florida, Moutet has qualified for the second round of the Miami Masters 1000. He defeated Blockx in two sets (7-6, 6-4).
