Mpetshi Perricard reaches the quarters in Basel!
Facing Felix Auger-Aliassime in the 2nd round, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard relied on his first service ball to win in just over an hour.
With 83% of points won behind his first serve (22 aces) and no break points conceded, the Frenchman played a solid enough match to win in two sets (6-1, 7-6) and reach the quarter-finals in Basel for the first time in his career.
He will meet another Canadian, Denis Shapovalov, for a place in the semi-finals.
Félix Auger-Aliassime was the surprise two-time title-holder in Basel, having won the tournament in 2022 and 2023.
Roger Federer's record of 3 consecutive titles will therefore not be equalled for the time being.
