Federer no longer honoured in Basel
Ten-time winner of the ATP 500 in his home town, Roger Federer is no longer honored by the organizers.
The Swiss is the record holder for the number of tournament victories (10), the number of finals (15) and is also the oldest player to have won the tournament (38).
These impressive records would surely merit a plaque, a bust or some other kind of object to commemorate Federer.
But as the Swiss media outlet Blick points out, his name is only visible on the tournament's prize list.
This is due to a conflict between the organizers and the former world No.1, which dates back to 2022, his last professional season. At that time, he decided not to take part in the tournament as part of his farewell tour.
And in 2023, when a tribute ceremony was proposed, Roger Federer declined the invitation, explaining that he wished to distance himself emotionally.
And so, in the wake of these misunderstandings, the organizers clearly decided to erase the Swiss legend's exploits at the tournament.
