Mpetshi Perricard: "We Can't Keep Going Like This"

Apart from his semifinal in Brisbane, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard has had a rather disappointing start to the 2025 season. The Frenchman is currently on a five-match losing streak.
Recently defeated by Mariano Navone in Madrid, he opened up to *L’Équipe*: "Until 3-3, 0-30, it wasn’t bad. Then there was a big drop-off that I can’t really explain.
A small hiccup threw off what I had been doing well up to that point. I got stuck in my own head, showing the complete opposite of what I do in practice.
My matches haven’t been great for a while now—we need to figure out why. We’ll have to do a thorough debrief and lay everything out. We can’t keep going like this, or we’ll crash and burn.
It’s the same matches repeating themselves, so there needs to be a change in my game if I want to do better.
The most important thing is to stay united with the team and see how we can improve. Sometimes, on the court, things get a bit blurry—the intentions aren’t clear anymore, which happens when confidence is low and doubts creep in.
We have time before Rome, and we’ll need to work on a lot of things. I don’t think my game is really the issue because I play well in practice—that’s the most frustrating part.
It’s more mental, but that’s a broad thing, the mind. I hope to be mentally ready for Rome."
