Musetti Defeats Tsitsipas Again and Advances to the Round of 16 at the Madrid Masters 1000

Just days after their quarterfinal clash at the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Lorenzo Musetti faced off once more, this time in the third round in Madrid.
In a match postponed to Tuesday due to a massive power outage in Spain, Tsitsipas—who had suffered a back injury and was forced to retire in Barcelona—hoped to get back on track.
On the clay courts of Monaco, Musetti had defeated the Greek for the first time in six encounters (1-6, 6-3, 6-4).
In the Spanish capital, the script seemed to repeat itself when Tsitsipas led 5-2 and then 0-15 on Musetti’s serve, but the momentum completely shifted from that point onward.
Despite holding a set point at 5-4 on a return game, Tsitsipas ended up losing the last five games of the first set, allowing the Italian to take control.
In the second set, both players were dominant on their serves. Musetti did not concede a single break point, while Tsitsipas raised his level when necessary to fend off danger.
Ultimately, a tiebreak decided the match. Musetti quickly pulled ahead to lead 6-0 before sealing the victory a few points later.
Musetti triumphed in straight sets (7-5, 7-6) and advanced to the round of 16, where he will face Alex De Minaur—just as he did in the semifinals in Monte-Carlo.
Musetti had previously defeated the Australian in a third-set tiebreak a few weeks ago before going on to play the final against Carlos Alcaraz.
