"My concentration dropped a bit in the second set," says Paolini after qualifying for the second round of Roland-Garros
Jasmine Paolini faced challenges in her opening match at Roland-Garros. The Italian, recently crowned champion at the WTA 1000 in Rome, had to work hard to eliminate Yuan Yue (6-1, 4-6, 6-3), but the world number 4 is set for the second round, where she will face Ajla Tomljanovic or Maya Joint.
A finalist last year, Paolini will need to step up her game if she wants to achieve the same success this year at Porte d'Auteuil. In a press conference, the Italian reflected on the match.
"It was a difficult match, with lots of ups and downs. The first set went by very quickly, but the problem was that my concentration dropped a bit in the second. In the end, I am happy with how I managed to come back at the end. I am particularly proud of the third set because it wasn't easy.
For me, it doesn't make any difference having to defend my points because I was in the final last year, but, of course, it's a special feeling. For now, I try not to have too high expectations, I prefer to focus on the match I have to play and nothing else.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The goal is always to think about the present moment, and what will happen in the next match," she analyzed for Punto De Break.
