"My grandfather passed away two days ago, I wanted to win for him," says Tauson, who defeated Keys in Montreal

Clara Tauson will compete in the semifinals of the WTA 1000 in Montreal. The Danish player, ranked 19th in the world, defeated Madison Keys, the Australian Open winner earlier this season (6-1, 6-4), confirming her victory over Iga Swiatek in the round of 16.
The 22-year-old has yet to drop a single set in Quebec, having started the tournament with two straightforward wins against Bronzetti and Starodubtseva. On the court after the match, Tauson made sure to pay tribute to her grandfather, who passed away during the tournament.
"My grandfather passed away two days ago, and I really wanted to win for him today. I found out the news yesterday after my match against Iga (Swiatek). I wanted to come on the court and play my best tennis for him, and I hope he’s watching from above," Tauson said.
Visibly emotional on the court after her victory over the American earlier today, Tauson will now aim to reach the final and will have to overcome Naomi Osaka this Wednesday.
