Nadal on the Rome Tournament: "Sooner or later, I will come to say goodbye"
A ten-time champion, Nadal holds the record for most titles in Rome. Eliminated by Hurkacz in the second round last year, the Spaniard exited the Italian tournament on a low note. Retiring a few months later, the 22-time Grand Slam winner had thus played his final match at the Foro Italico.
In an interview with *La Gazzetta dello Sport*, Nadal reflected on the importance of this tournament in his career and expressed his desire to return for a proper farewell:
"Sooner or later, I will come to say goodbye, as this tournament deserves. Rome has been one of the most important places in my career, as well as in my life. The Foro Italico is a special place—you can feel the history of sports in the air.
It’s a different feeling compared to other tournaments. The Pietrangeli Stadium, the practice courts where the Tennis Bar is located—there are so many things that make Rome a unique and magnificent tournament."
