New setback for Berrettini, forced to withdraw from Roland-Garros
Matteo Berrettini will not compete in Roland-Garros. The Italian, ranked 28th in the world, has withdrawn from the 2025 French Open a few hours before the draw.
Forced to retire at the beginning of the second set against Casper Ruud in Rome (7-5, 2-0) due to an abdominal injury, the former ATP ranking 6th place left the court in tears.
Unfortunately for him, he hasn't recovered in time and has confirmed his withdrawal from Roland-Garros. The curse continues for Berrettini, who hasn't participated in the Parisian Grand Slam since his quarterfinal loss in the 2021 edition against Novak Djokovic.
He is the fifth player officially withdrawing after Zhang Zhizhen, David Goffin, Raphaël Collignon, and Shang Juncheng. While a lucky loser player will replace him, Alex Michelsen is now guaranteed to be a seeded player for this tournament.
