Now, the recovery begins," Zheng announces withdrawal from Washington
Eliminated in the first round of Wimbledon, China's Zheng continues her difficult period as she has just undergone elbow surgery—an injury she had been struggling with for a long time. Withdrawing from the Washington tournament, the Chinese player wanted to reassure her fans on her Instagram account:
"I’d like to share a quick update with you. Over the past few months, I’ve been dealing with persistent pain in my right elbow during training and matches. Although I tried several treatments to address it, the discomfort never fully went away.
After consulting elbow specialists and discussing in depth with my team, we decided that arthroscopic surgery was the best option to fully resolve the issue. Yesterday, I successfully underwent the procedure, and I’m grateful to put this behind me. Now, the recovery begins.
In the coming weeks and months, I’ll focus entirely on rehabilitation and do everything I can to come back stronger and healthier. This is just a short pause, and I see it as a necessary step to return as a better version of myself on the court. Thank you all for your support and encouragement. I can’t wait to be back—see you soon!
