"Oh, was he there? I didn't see anything," Osaka reacts to Kyrgios' presence in her Wimbledon box

After defeating Gibson in the first round of Wimbledon (6-4, 7-6), Naomi Osaka had the surprise support of Kyrgios in her player's box. When asked about it during the press conference, the Japanese player admitted she wasn't aware of the Australian's presence:
"Oh, was he there? I didn’t see anything. I jokingly said to someone earlier, 'Hey, I know Nick is around. Maybe he wants to come to my match?' But I was just kidding. Because I know we’re two completely different players. Honestly, I would’ve loved to go to his matches because I know he’s pretty entertaining. That’s also why we’re different.
I know he kind of tells his team what to do, and he probably would’ve noticed if I was there. I’m glad he came to my match. I hope in some way, maybe he felt… I wouldn’t dare say 'inspired,' but I hope he could relate a little to what I do too."
As a reminder, Kyrgios and Osaka will team up in mixed doubles at the all-new US Open format scheduled for August.
