Osaka Reaches Third Round of US Open for First Time Since 2021
Naomi Osaka has regained her form during the American summer, reaching the final in Montreal under the guidance of her new coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski.
In her ninth appearance at the US Open, the four-time Grand Slam champion began her campaign with a decisive victory over Greet Minnen (6-3, 6-4) and faced world No. 47 Hailey Baptiste in the second round. Against an opponent she had defeated twice this year (in Auckland and Miami), Osaka showcased her tennis and won 6-3, 6-1 in just over an hour of play.
Impressive in this early stage of the tournament, the 27-year-old player has advanced to the round of 16 at Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2021. She was eliminated in the first round in 2022, withdrew in 2023 due to her pregnancy, and was defeated in the second round last year upon her return to New York.
To secure a spot in the second week, she will face either Daria Kasatkina or Kamilla Rakhimova.
