Paolini crashes out of Dubai in third round

Jasmine Paolini lost to Sofia Kenin in the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai on Wednesday.

After losing the first set 6-4, the Italian crashed out in the first game of the second set, necessitating a few minutes' interruption.

Paolini insisted on continuing to play despite her sore ankle, but could do nothing. She lost 6-4, 6-0.

She was the defending champion and will lose a lot, losing 880 points and at least two places in the WTA rankings.

It remains to be seen how serious her ankle injury is.
