Paolini Eager to Play in Rome: "It's a Tournament Where All Italians Want to Perform Well"
Jasmine Paolini is set to make her debut in the second round of the WTA 1000 in Rome. The world No. 5 Italian will face Lulu Sun in her first match of the 2025 edition.
Before that, the two-time Grand Slam finalist addressed the media and shared her ambitions. She hopes to improve on last year's performance, where she was defeated in her opening match by Mayar Sherif.
"Rome is a tournament where all Italians want to perform well, but you have to stay calm and not have too many expectations. It’s wonderful to play in front of this crowd, who will surely be even more behind us compared to other years.
Let’s say I hope to play more matches than last year, when I had a first-round bye before losing in the second. How to handle the pressure best? Maybe I’m not the best person to answer that after what I did last year!
Joking aside, even though I have a lot of experience, tennis is a strange sport. I’ll try to approach the matches with serenity but stay alert. I’m feeling good physically and would love to play as many matches as possible," Paolini explained on the Rome tournament’s official website.
