"Players are becoming thinner and thinner," Mouratoglou's observation on the men's tour
With over 20 years of coaching experience, Mouratoglou doesn’t hesitate to share his expertise on social media. When asked about the evolution of physiques in professional tennis, the Frenchman shared a very specific observation.
"Obviously, there has been a shift in the type of physique among tennis players in recent years. They are becoming thinner and thinner. Among the world’s best, there’s only one exception: Alcaraz. Otherwise, Djokovic, Sinner, Zverev, Medvedev, and Tsitsipas are all lean, very tall, serve well, and do so with great power.
When you can accelerate at the same speed as someone shorter than you, it makes a difference. Mensik is tall, the same goes for Michelsen. All these guys have the same body type. The new generation is like that."
An interesting analysis from Naomi Osaka’s coach, highlighting the constant evolution of athlete profiles in high-level sports.
