Poland eliminate Norway from the United Cup
A successful start for the outgoing United Cup finalists. Poland, emerging as one of this year's title contenders, made their debut in this 2025 edition.
At the same time, Iga Swiatek played her first match of the year against Malene Helgo.
The world number 2 was quick off the mark, winning 6-1, 6-0 in barely an hour.
Casper Ruud then levelled the scores by dominating Hubert Hurkacz in two sets (7-5, 6-3). It was Ruud's third victory over Hurkacz in four meetings.
It was the mixed doubles that decided the fate of the match.
In a match that was indecisive right up to the end, it was the Iga Swiatek/Jan Zielinski pair who finally had the last word (6-3, 0-6, 10-8) against the pair of Ulrikke Eikeri and Casper Ruud.
After Spain and Brazil, here's another eliminated player in this United Cup 2025.
Despite Casper Ruud's good results, Norway were unable to avoid early elimination. Poland, meanwhile, will face the Czech Republic in the final for first place.
