What a tournament from Alexei Popyrin!
Nobody really saw it coming. Buoyed by an absolutely exceptional level of play, Popyrin has just completed a week of beauty by overcoming Korda (7-6, 6-3) to reach the final.
Ranked 62nd in the world, the determined and carefree Australian swept all before him.
After defeating Shelton in the second round (6-4, 7-6), he went on to overturn an excellent Dimitrov after saving 3 match points (4-6, 7-6, 6-3), then eliminated Hurkacz in a courageous battle (3-6, 7-6, 7-5) and Korda.
On cloud nine, he will now challenge Rublev for an unthinkable first Masters 1000 title.
