Pouille ejected from the Top 100 and in bad shape for the Australian Open
With a wrist injury, Lucas Pouille hasn't had the chance to defend his ranking in recent weeks to secure his place in the main draw in Melbourne.
The Frenchman, who is ranked 99th in the world this week, is currently in the cut for the main draw at the Australian Open.
But this was without counting on the performances of several players ranked behind him, determined to secure their ticket to Melbourne.
As a result, three players will move ahead of the Frenchman in the rankings after this week's competition on the Challenger circuit: Federico Coria, Damir Dzumhur and Camilo Ugo Carabelli.
Dzumhur beat Coria in the semi-finals in Maia (Portugal), while Ugo Carabelli reached the final in Temuco (Chile).
Things could get even worse for Pouille if Francesco Passaro wins tomorrow's Maia Challenger against Dzumhur. The Italian would then break into the Top 100 and Pouille would drop to 102nd in the rankings.
The Frenchman will therefore have to hope for withdrawals to secure his place in the Australian Open main draw and avoid qualifying.
