Radwanska defends Swiatek on the calendar: "We're not robots".
A former world No. 2, Agnieszka Radwanska was a consistent player who fought hard to win the biggest titles.
Despite 20 career titles and a Wimbledon final in 2012, the Pole has never won a Grand Slam. She did, however, win the WTA Finals in 2015 before retiring in 2018.
Interviewed by local media Przeglad Sportowy, Radwanska, now 35, referred to her compatriot Iga Swiatek, who lost her No.1 ranking at the end of the season despite winning her fourth French Open title earlier in the year.
Asked about Swiatek's criticism of the overloaded calendar, Agnieszka Radwanska was keen to respond and defend her.
"Iga Swiatek is under twice as much pressure, because she's been at the top for almost three years. Iga has been defending this position for a long time.
After that, Iga has the right to be tired and need time for herself. I think almost all top-level tennis players find themselves in this situation sooner or later.
It's impossible for someone to play for years and be physically fresh all the time, eager to get ready for the next training session and hungry to play.
That's not the case; it would be inhuman. We're not robots," she asserts.
