"Rankings aren't that important at this stage of the tournament," says Gauff about facing Boisson
After dropping the first set against Keys, Gauff displayed impressive resilience to secure her spot in the Roland-Garros semifinals (6-7, 6-4, 6-1). The American, who was a finalist last year, will now face France's Boisson, ranked 361st in the world:
"Yes, I've watched her play—she's very talented, plays fantastic tennis, and she's having an incredible tournament. Rankings aren't that important at this stage of the tournament. It’s going to be a tough match, and the crowd probably won’t be on my side, that’s for sure, but it’ll be an exciting battle.
Besides, I’ve played against Paolini in Rome, as well as Garcia and Mladenovic, so I have a bit of experience facing crowds that aren’t supporting me," she told France Télévisions.
Invited by the tournament organizers, Boisson has defeated three seeded players to reach her first Grand Slam semifinal.
