With the pressure from the crowd, I no longer felt confident in my shots," Andreeva reflects on her loss to Boisson

Heavily favored given her ranking (world No. 6), Andreeva experienced a major disappointment as she fell to Boisson in the Roland-Garros quarterfinals. Struggling particularly in the second set, the Russian was on the verge of tears, finding it hard to control her nerves with the crowd firmly behind the French player. Asked about her defeat in the press conference—she just turned 18 this year—she reflected:
"It’s normal for them to support a French player, so I knew it would be like this. I think I handled the first set pretty well. I didn’t really pay attention to it, but obviously, with nerves and tension, it got a bit harder. With the pressure from the crowd, I no longer felt confident in my shots.
But no matter what, I think I can learn from this for the next big matches I play. I managed not to react to what they were saying or shouting in the first set. So, if I could’ve done that throughout the whole match, it would’ve been great.
I’ve known her for a long time. I knew she was around 150th, but she’d had an injury. You know, rankings are rankings. Whether you’re ranked 5th or 300th, the match can be tough.
