Rinderknech Ousts Opelka to Reach Queen’s Quarterfinals
A lucky loser this week in London, Arthur Rinderknech is making the most of his second chance.
The Frenchman claimed the scalp of world No. 10 Ben Shelton in the first round on Tuesday. Facing another American player on Thursday, Reilly Opelka, Rinderknech was flawless on serve (no break points conceded) and consistently made the difference late in each set to secure a 7-5, 7-6 victory just before nightfall.
This marks the first time this season he has strung together back-to-back wins on the ATP Tour. He will now compete for a spot in the semifinals against Carlos Alcaraz, who earlier in the evening battled past Jaume Munar (6-4, 6-7, 7-5).
