Roddick admires Sinner: "He's made an incredible name for himself in Italy".
Jannik Sinner's 2024 season left its mark. With eight titles, including the ATP Finals and three Masters 1000s, the Italian surpassed the symbolic milestone of 70 victories in a single season.
This is a first on the ATP circuit since Andy Murray in 2016. And that's not all, as the world number 1 can also add the Davis Cup by the end of the weekend.
The big names in tennis have admired Sinner's performances in recent months, and this is the case of Andy Roddick, who spoke very highly of him: "He won the ATP Finals by winning every set.
He only conceded a maximum of three or four games to his opponents in each set.
These are the kind of results you see at junior level when a 16-year-old is older and superior to his rivals," he elaborated, according to Tennis World Italia.
Roddick talks about Sinner's popularity in his country
The former world number 1 also recalled the extent to which Jannik Sinner's status is changing.
"On the day of the US Open final, 3 million viewers watched him play in Italy. Their national soccer team was on the pitch at the same time, and only 1.3 million people watched.
In Italy, he's practically like Taylor Swift in the United States. I went on vacation this summer and everyone was talking about Sinner, everyone was asking me about him.
There's a lot of enthusiasm for Sinner's emergence," he concluded. No doubt the Italian will be the man to beat in 2025.
