Roddick on Fritz: "He's improved in all areas but needs to make the necessary adjustments against players like Sinner."
Taylor Fritz had a great second half of the season last year. Finalist at the ATP Finals and the US Open, he came up short on both occasions.
In both cases, it was Jannik Sinner who ended his title hopes.
In his podcast, Andy Roddick looks at what the world No. 4 needs to do to compete with the best players in the world, including the Italian who flew past 2024.
As a reminder, Fritz became the first American player since this same Roddick to play in the US Open final in the men's singles draw, back in 2006.
"The guy's a hard worker. He plays everywhere he can, he never wants to take weeks off and tennis is his priority.
In relation to the two finals he lost to Sinner, the question I have is this. What can he do to change tactics against the world number 1?
He's not a player who can create bunts or slices or generate the speed of a Carlos Alcaraz.
Taylor will never be the best player in the world when it comes to court movement, even if he has improved a lot. And he's not even a hitter of the calibre of Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
He has an excellent serve, but in my opinion, if he wants to have a chance in the Grand Slam tournaments, he needs to work on his second serve, because a player like Jannik Sinner can do it without any problem.
Generally speaking, he's improved in all areas, but he needs to be able to make the necessary adjustments against players like Jannik Sinner, because I think that today, he's the worst opponent for Taylor Fritz", he assured.
