Royal path for Alcaraz to the Roland-Garros final?
Qualified for the third round of Roland-Garros after his victory over Fabian Marozsan, Carlos Alcaraz continues to benefit from the eliminations of his main competitors in his section of the draw.
On Monday, it was Taylor Fritz, world No. 4, who was knocked out in the first round by Daniel Altmaier. This Wednesday, Casper Ruud (against Nuno Borges) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (against Matteo Gigante, a qualifier) were also eliminated from the men's draw.
The potential quarterfinal against Ruud is now off the table, meaning Nuno Borges, Alexei Popyrin, Karen Khachanov, or Tommy Paul—who came within two points of defeat against Marton Fucsovics today—could face the world No. 2 instead.
As for the semifinal, only two top-10 players remain in the lower half of the draw: Lorenzo Musetti and Holger Rune.
The Italian, who comfortably advanced to the third round, could pose the biggest threat on the defending champion's path, while Rune is currently playing his second-round match against Emilio Nava.
The draw now appears wide open for the four-time Grand Slam winner, who will need to confirm his favorite status match by match.
