Rublev cracks again: "I needed to let my emotions out".
Another nervous moment for Andrey Rublev. Beaten in the first round by Francisco Comesana (6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6) at Wimbledon, where he reached the quarter-finals last year, the Russian once again had a huge fit of anger towards himself.
After missing a backhand that gave his opponent a double break in the third set, Rublev violently hit his knee 7 times with his racket, going so far as to make himself bleed (see video below). A way of releasing his emotions, as he later explained in the press conference, but it didn't have the desired effect, as he still lost.
Andrey Rublev: "I wouldn't have done that if I was allowed to hit the racket on the grass (forbidden due to the fragility of the surface). At that point, I couldn't take the frustration anymore. I needed to release my emotions. But thanks. Everything's fine (with his knee)."
