Rublev opens up about his period of depression: "For years, I couldn't find anything to live for".
Ahead of his debut at tomorrow's tournament in Dubai, Andrey Rublev spoke to The National about his period of depression and the suicidal thoughts that have been on his mind in recent years.
The Russian revealed the difficult times he went through: "I was in a loop, lost with myself. For several years, I couldn't find my way, I didn't understand what I was supposed to do.
Maybe that sounds a bit dramatic, but I couldn't find a reason to live.
Inside, I was completely lost. It's one thing for this to happen to you for two or three months. But when it's been going on for one, two, three or five years, you can't take it anymore.
It was like a pain that grew and grew, to the point where it wanted to cut my arm off. [...]
Now I don't feel any stress or depression. I'm neither happy nor sad: I'm neutral. At least I've found a base, and that's a start."
