Ruud Wins UTS Nîmes Against Machac
Back on his favorite surface, Casper Ruud claimed the UTS Nîmes title this Saturday against Tomas Machac.
The day at the Nîmes Arena began with the semifinals. Machac was the first to secure his spot in the final, winning a nail-biter (12-13, 12-11, 6-20, 17-13, 2-1) against Alex De Minaur.
Ruud also fought hard on his end to defeat Andrey Rublev, overcoming a two-quarter deficit and even saving two match points in sudden death (11-14, 8-17, 15-13, 18-12, 3-2).
In the final, it was the Norwegian who managed to take control three quarters to one (12-13, 16-14, 15-14, 15-11), winning his first UTS tournament in front of 12,500 spectators in the stands.
After this successful exhibition for the world No. 6, attention now turns to the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000, where he reached the final last season.
