Sabalenka regains motivation: "I'm hungrier on the court than in the Middle East"
Aryna Sabalenka rediscovered the taste of victory yesterday against McCartney Kessler, after two early exits in Doha and Dubai during February, where she still seemed affected by her defeat in Australia.
In a press conference yesterday, the world No. 1 explained feeling much more motivated since arriving in Indian Wells: "I'm hungrier on the court than in the Middle East. The Australian Open final broke my heart, it was very difficult to recover after that.
In the Middle East, I was still in my thoughts, trying to understand my defeat. I kept thinking about that match. I really felt it like a Grand Slam final, there was such an atmosphere... It was so much fun.
Today, I tried to focus on myself, stay aggressive, and put as much pressure on her as possible. I'm very happy to have managed my emotions and secured this tough victory."
