Schmiedlova, absent from the tour since February, announces her pregnancy

Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova will be away from the tour for several months. The Slovakian, currently ranked 158th in the world, has not played a single match since her first-round qualifying loss at the WTA 1000 in Doha against Varvara Gracheva on February 7.
The reason? The 30-year-old player, who once reached a career-high ranking of No. 26, is expecting a happy event in the coming weeks. She confirmed the news on her social media.
"Hello, I just wanted to let you know that the reason I haven’t been competing in tournaments or playing for the BJK Cup team in April is my pregnancy. This is a personal matter for me, but I wanted to share it to avoid any confusion in the coming months.
My partner and I are very happy and excited. Thank you all for your support," Schmiedlova wrote on Instagram recently.
In recent months, Schmiedlova made headlines by unexpectedly reaching the semifinals of the Paris Olympics, defeating players like Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova before losing to Donna Vekic and then Iga Swiatek in the bronze medal match.
